There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries on top of the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
